Creating our own survey

Watch the end result of the cyberchase episode.

As you are watching this, your teacher will create one survey from the many ideas you have come up with.

Answer these questions in your book:

Why did Whitney's sister have to change her question?

What factors did Whitney's sister have to think about when asking her new question?

Why didn't Whitney's sister choose to ask everybody who walked out of the store?

Wait for your teacher's instructions

Now that everyone has finished watching the clip and answering the questions, the teacher will put a link up on the board to the survey.

Copy the link into your search bar and begin the survey.

Wait for your teacher's instructions

As a class, you will transfer the results into a table in your book. Below is an example of what the table may look like.

                                                  Favourite movie

Jungle book           Zootopia         Kung fu panda           Frozen          Inside out              Other

Draw and complete a table in your work book

Discuss as a class different ways that you can represent this data.

Working together in pairs, draw the survey results as a pictogram in your books.

Once completed, draw the results as a bar graph.

Using this website, display the data as a bar graph. Click "pie chart" and see how it changes.

Copy, as best as you can, the pie chart into your books. Answer these questions:

Which graph did you find easier to read and why?

What sorts of data would a pie chart be good to represent?

Now it is your turn
